Or Sonic "Chronic"les as I call it. I've been ranting on this game a lot, so it's about time I actually make a review for it, and why I just didn't like it.

When I first heard that there was going to be a Sonic RPG, I nearly crapped my pants with excitement. This was something I was waiting for a long time. I was all like "How could they possibly screw it up, it's a Sonic RPG!" Boy, was I wrong...

I'll be honest, I thought the storyline was okay. It wasn't too special, but still. What I didn't like was how Bioware claimed that Big was an important part of the story. Where did he do anything other than lug his fat anus through poison gas? Every single time he spoke, it was something completely off topic. Sonic: "Okay guys, are we ready to go to the next colony?" Big: "Durr... let's eat pie!" Yeah, sounds important, but that's nothing major. I can't really comment on the storyline much since I thought it was just "okay."

The battle system. Unlike most people, I liked it, but it was the enemies and PP that ruined it. One single battle takes soooooooo loooooonnnng. You end up running from every battle or else an inch will add to your beard once you finish one. Specials? Don't even think about using them. Everyone gets about 15-18 PP, and most moves cost about 6-8. Very unbalanced. Running, as creative as it was, takes forever. I just want to GTFO already, not dodge randomly placed boxes first! The battles could have been fun, but the PP usage and enemy durability prevented that, which pretty much ruined most of the game.

Let's go to the world. First off, Bioware claimed that there were 20 areas to explore. Bull. I only counted 13 (or was it 12?). The maps also had... movement abilities. Basically just this game's version of HMs. They always sucked in Pokemon, they're not any better here. What if I didn't want Knuckles with me? Why do I need him to climb the wall? When will some RPGs with a customizable team finally figure out that requiring certain characters for certain obstacles is annoying and limits team building? The worlds themselves were fine, but the enemies drain all your motivation for exploring them. Even me, as an OCD Completionist, just ran from all the enemies and did whatever came next.

And the music... ugh... this is the only Sonic game that actually has bad music. Not only that, but this is the worst game music I've ever heard (from what I have played). Bioware released a few gameplay videos prior to the release that showed some characters running through different worlds. The music playing in those videos sounded excellent, but the game was finally released... they changed them all. Barely any songs in the game were original, most were a remix of songs from Sonic CD or Sonic 3D Blast. Unfortunately, those remixes were AWFUL. It sounded like they took the originals, wiped their butts with them, and left them hanging on a cactus to sit and rot. The only good songs were the battle themes, and they weren't exactly the best ever. Biggest problem: Most of the music was Gameboy quality... I'm not kidding. A DS game with Gameboy quality music. Just no...

Just to prove how badly they messed the original songs up, here's some remixes compared to their originals:

By far the worst. This just proves they didn't try with the music at all.

Is this game worth it? It may seem so when you first start playing it, but once you beat it... you just feel like it was a huge waste of time. I say pass. I really didn't enjoy in the end. It's like nothing but a tedious task. That's the whole game.

I haven't actually gotten very far in the game so I hadn't had the chance to actually hear much of the music. I thought there was no way it could be as bad as people said, then I listened to the links in this review.

I.... can't believe what they did to Diamond Dust Zone! What a thing to happen to one of the most beautiful songs in gaming. :cry:

Man, I havent played Sonic Chronicles for some time, and I didnt get to far as I thought. Just those mean Mk.II robots from the first time I encounter them. ><

Actualy, besides the music I found the game fun. However it was too easy when I played. (I've beaten it about 4 times.)

I didn't really like this game in the end. The battles at the beginning were really based on luck (I missed like every other hit), I couldn't really buy items at all in the game, if you messed up an action command for healing it wouldn't work...so many parts of this game needed tweaking it wasn't funny. Oh, and usually New Game Plus is supposed to be fun...nope, you just run around overleveled with nothing new to do.

Kyle, one word. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS best music ever. :) I hope they can touch it, and keep it intact, while placing it in some kickass spot in an ossim sonic game. Also, for a sonic RPG, I didn't have my hopes up to begin with. I mean, sega needs to stop pumping out like 4 sonic games a year, and be more focused like nintendo, who even tho they take a while before they release a new mario game, It's very high in quality.
